Escape to beautiful south-west Scotland
Welcome to Rowan Cottage in New Galloway, the smallest royal burgh in Scotland. Our cosy, dog-friendly holiday cottage is in a quiet location on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, just by Loch Ken. So you’ll find plenty to explore from the moment you step out of the door.
Full of character, Rowan Cottage can be found tucked away down a gently sloping side street just a short stroll from the heart of New Galloway.
An idyllic place to stop and stay for a while
Rowan Cottage sleeps up to six guests plus two dogs. The converted byre and steading is ideal for family holidays or spending quality time away with friends. It has a wonderful woodland garden that is bordered by a stream (or burn) with beautiful countryside views beyond. During the warmer months you can sit outside to enjoy your morning cuppa, listening to the birds singing and the babbling burn flow by. Then savour the dark skies at night and see what stars and constellations you can spot.
Harbours, hills, lochs and legends
Outdoor adventurers and culture enthusiasts love this part of south-west Scotland. There’s plenty of mountain-bike routes and a fantastic network of cycle trails; water sports and lots of wild swimming locations; plus fishing and golf nearby. We’re also just a short drive from the artist’s town and harbour of Kirkcudbright as well as Castle Douglas, a thriving market town.
New Galloway is bang in the centre of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere (GSAB). The area was awarded this status in recognition of the spectacular landscape, wildlife and heritage here. GSAB even made it onto the National Geographic’s Cool List of destinations for 2024. So you simply have to come and stay!
There’s so much to see and do during your holiday in Scotland. That’s why so many guests return here time and time again
